Pregnancy photography is about more than beautiful portraits—it’s about preserving this meaningful chapter of your life. Deciding whether and how to document it can come with plenty of questions. Where will the session take place? What should you wear? What if you don’t feel comfortable in front of the camera?
Here are some of the most common questions I hear from expecting moms, along with everything you need to know before your maternity photography experience.

For most pregnancies, I recommend scheduling your maternity photography session between 28 and 34 weeks. During this stage, your pregnancy is beautifully visible while you may still feel relatively comfortable moving and enjoying your experience.
Every pregnancy is different, though, so there isn’t one perfect week for everyone. If you’re expecting twins or have been advised to deliver earlier, we may want to plan your session sooner.
The most important thing is to choose a time when you feel comfortable and when your beautiful pregnancy is clearly visible.
Your session can take place outdoors or in my San Ramon studio, depending on the look and experience you envision.
For an outdoor session, we can choose a beautiful, natural setting with soft light and a timeless atmosphere. An outdoor location can create romantic, scenic portraits that feel connected to the season of your pregnancy.
If you prefer something more intimate and controlled, my studio provides a beautiful environment where we can focus entirely on you, your pregnancy, and your family.
Whether you prefer natural surroundings or the simplicity of a studio, I’ll help you choose the setting that feels right for you.
One of the things I love most about creating a personalized experience for expecting moms is helping with wardrobe planning.
I offer a complimentary maternity wardrobe featuring elegant, timeless dresses selected to photograph beautifully and flatter the changing shape of pregnancy.
You don’t need to spend hours searching for the perfect outfit or worry about whether something will photograph well. We’ll choose pieces that complement your style and the overall look we want to create.
The goal is for you to feel beautiful, comfortable, and confident.

Absolutely.
Your maternity portraits don’t have to be only about you. Your partner and children can be an important part of documenting this chapter of your family’s story.
We’ll create a combination of beautiful portraits of you on your own, intimate images with your partner, and genuine family photographs with your children.
This is especially meaningful when you’re welcoming another baby. These photographs preserve not only your pregnancy, but also the relationships and excitement surrounding your growing family.
You’re definitely not alone!
Some partners aren’t naturally comfortable in front of the camera, and that’s completely okay. You don’t need to convince him to become a professional model for the day.
I’ll guide both of you throughout the session and keep things relaxed and natural. Often, all it takes is a few minutes for someone who feels awkward at first to relax and forget about the camera.
And we don’t need to spend the entire session photographing him. We’ll create a few meaningful portraits together and then focus on the images that are most important to you.

Yes. If you already know you’d like to document both your pregnancy and your baby’s first year, I offer a maternity and first-year membership designed specifically for this.
It includes your maternity session plus three full photography sessions during your baby’s first year, giving you four opportunities to document these important milestones.
It’s a beautiful way to tell the complete story—from pregnancy to those first precious months of your baby’s life.
If you’re interested in combining maternity and newborn photography, reach out and I can walk you through the membership and help you choose the option that makes the most sense for your family.
I hear this concern from expecting moms often.
Pregnancy changes your body in ways that can sometimes make you feel unfamiliar in your own skin. You may not feel like yourself, and that can make the idea of being photographed feel intimidating.
But maternity photography isn’t about looking like someone else. It’s about preserving you, exactly as you are in this moment.
Years from now, you may look back at these photographs and remember the excitement, anticipation, and love you felt while carrying your baby. You’ll see the woman who was preparing to become—or become again—a mother.
My job is to help you see yourself the way the people who love you see you: beautiful, strong, and worthy of being remembered.
Pregnancy photography doesn’t require you to know how to pose.
I’ll guide you throughout the entire session, from how you stand and move to where you place your hands and how you interact with your partner or children.
Rather than expecting you to simply “pose,” I’ll give you gentle direction so your expressions and movements feel natural.
My goal is for you to feel comfortable enough to forget about the camera and simply enjoy the experience.

Not necessarily.
If your baby hasn’t arrived yet, there is usually still an opportunity to create beautiful maternity portraits.
Ideally, maternity photography is planned ahead of time, but life happens—and sometimes you realize later than expected that you want to document your pregnancy.
If you’re further along than the recommended time frame, reach out as soon as possible. We’ll look at your timeline and see what we can make work.
Our photographs deserve to exist somewhere beyond a screen.
After your session, I’ll help you select your favorite images and guide you through creating heirloom albums and wall art designed to be enjoyed for years to come.
Instead of leaving your photographs on a hard drive or buried in your phone, we can turn your favorite family memories into tangible artwork for your home.
These are the photographs your children may one day hold in their hands and ask you about. That’s what makes printed photographs so meaningful.

Pregnancy goes by quickly. Your body changes, your family grows, and before you know it, you’re holding your baby in your arms.
Maternity photography gives you a way to pause and preserve this chapter—not simply as a beautiful photograph, but as a memory of who you were, who your family was, and the love you already felt for the little person you hadn’t yet met.
Whether you’re worried about what to wear, uncomfortable in front of the camera, or simply unsure whether a maternity session is right for you, my goal is to make the experience relaxed, guided, and personal from beginning to end.
If you’re expecting, your maternity experience is just the beginning. Once your little one arrives, you may also want to document those first precious days with a newborn session.
