Newborn photography in San Ramon is about more than creating beautiful images. Some photographs become more valuable with time—not because they are perfect, but because of the people in them and the memories they hold.
When the Jha family came to my San Ramon studio for baby Leela’s newborn session, I knew we were going to create something special. Studio newborn photography San Ramon families choose is about so much more than photographing a beautiful baby. Mom and Dad arrived with their three daughters—newborn Leela and her two older sisters—and Grandma was there as well. With three generations of the family together, there was so much love and connection in the room.
A newborn session is about much more than photographing a beautiful baby. It is an opportunity to preserve this very beginning of your family’s story: the way everyone looks at the newest member, the excitement of older siblings becoming big sisters, and the people who come together to welcome a new baby into the family.
Before a family arrives at my studio, I carefully prepare everything for their newborn session. I want parents to walk in and feel that they can relax because the details have already been taken care of.
For Leela’s session, we kept the styling soft, warm, and timeless. Her family chose beautiful earthy tones—creams, beiges, and warm neutrals—which complemented the natural, classic look I love for newborn portraits.
Leela herself was calm and cozy throughout much of the session and especially happy when she was swaddled. Once she was wrapped in soft neutral fabrics, she settled beautifully and slept through many of the photographs.
Every newborn is different, though, and I never expect a baby to follow a script. Some babies sleep soundly for most of their session, while others need more time for feeding, soothing, or simply being held. We always work around the baby’s needs rather than rushing through the experience.
That flexibility is one of the things I love most about working as a studio newborn photographer. The session may have a plan, but the baby always gets the final say.
One of my favorite parts of Leela’s session was photographing her with her two older sisters.
They were so gentle and caring with their new baby sister, and their excitement was easy to see. There is something incredibly special about watching children meet a new sibling and realizing that they are beginning a relationship that will last their entire lives.
I don’t want sibling photographs to feel stiff or overly posed. Instead, I give children gentle direction and allow their personalities and natural connection to come through. Sometimes the sweetest photograph is a quiet moment of a sister looking down at the baby, or the way a child reaches out to touch those tiny fingers.
These are the moments that may not seem extraordinary today, but years from now, they can become some of the most meaningful photographs in a family’s collection.

The most meaningful part of Leela’s session happened when I invited Grandma to join a few family portraits.
She hadn’t planned to be photographed. She had come to support her family and spend time with her new granddaughter, not necessarily to step in front of my camera. But I gently encouraged her to join them, and I’m so glad she did.
One of my favorite photographs from the entire session is the portrait of Grandma, Mom, baby Leela, and her two big sisters together.
Three generations of women in one frame.
There is something incredibly powerful about a photograph like that. It isn’t just a newborn portrait. It tells a much bigger story about family, motherhood, daughters, and the people who surround a child from the very beginning of her life.
I think these are often the photographs families don’t realize they will treasure the most until many years have passed.

I always encourage parents to be part of their newborn session. I know that this can sometimes be difficult for new moms, especially when you’re only a few weeks postpartum and may not feel completely like yourself yet. Dads sometimes feel differently and think the session is really about the baby.
But your baby won’t grow up wishing there were more photographs of perfect poses.
They’ll want to see you.
They’ll want to see the way you held them, the way you looked at them, and what your family looked like when they first arrived.
Years from now, nobody will care whether you felt tired that morning or whether you thought your hair looked perfect. What will matter is that you were there.
That is one of the reasons I encourage families to step into the photographs even when they don’t necessarily feel camera-ready. My job is to guide you into flattering, natural positions and create images that feel beautiful while still looking like your family.
And sometimes the photographs that matter most are not the perfectly posed ones. They are the photographs that remind you exactly how it felt to hold your baby when she was this tiny.

After your newborn session, I carefully select and edit the images that tell the story of your family. But for me, the experience doesn’t end with a digital gallery.
Photographs are meant to be enjoyed.
A beautiful portrait sitting on a computer is easy to forget about. A photograph displayed on your wall becomes part of your everyday life. An album can be pulled from a shelf years later and shared with your children.
That’s why I love helping families turn their favorite photographs into heirloom albums and wall art. These tangible pieces allow the memories from your newborn session to become something your family can see, hold, and enjoy for generations.
The Jha family’s photographs tell a beautiful story—not only of baby Leela, but of the people who welcomed her into the world.

That means so much to me because creating beautiful photographs is only one part of what I want families to experience.
I want you to feel cared for throughout the session, too. Whether we’re taking a break to soothe your baby, helping an older sibling feel comfortable, or encouraging Grandma to step into a photograph she wasn’t expecting to be part of, those little details matter.
Baby Leela was surrounded by so much love during her newborn session. Her parents, her two big sisters, and her grandmother were all there to celebrate this new chapter in their family.
And that’s what makes newborn photography so meaningful to me.
The tiny details change so quickly. Babies grow, siblings get older, families change, and these first days become a memory before you realize how quickly they’ve passed.
But photographs give you a way to return to them.
Years from now, Leela’s family will be able to look at these images and remember not only how tiny she was, but who was there to welcome her.
That is what I hope every newborn session gives a family: photographs that become more meaningful with time.
